Economy causes titan clash on Funeral cost

There is a battle of two titans over the Average Cost of a Funeral. The economy is forcing consumers to ask for  lower funeral cost. This was covered in the last post.

At the same time the funeral corporate giants are reporting losses due to the economy which can mean only one thing Higher Average Funeral cost.

Summary: “HOUSTON (AP) — Funeral-service company Service Corp. International on Monday cut its fourth-quarter profit guidance and said its 2009 outlook is under review because of a weak economy.

“Meanwhile, the company said its 2009 outlook for profit of 48 cents to 60 cents per share is under review.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect profit of 12 cents per share in the fourth quarter and 54 cents per share looking ahead to 2009.

“The updated guidance provided reflects economic and financial market challenges that were worse than the company expected in November and December 2008, which contributed to weaker preneed cemetery sales and lower trust fund income,” the company said, in a statement.

The company said it plans to provide further information on the outlook when it reports fourth-quarter profit Feb. 25.”

Service Corp. International(SCI) is the largest Funeral Corporation in the United States.

In fact in 2009 the Funeral Industry which is a 15 Billion $$$ Industry will have to recover from a 10 percent loss due to the Illinois Funeral Directors Association (IFDA) loss and the National Prearranged Services Loss (NPS) Preneed Scandals.
