Dr George Tiller died: Shot and killed

Dr George Tiller died: Shot and killed

Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed in his Lutheran Church today. To some he was a hero, to others he took away life. Murder however is never the way to settle differences. It is quite interesting that Dr.Tiller provided funeral services for every baby that died.

According to the New York Daily News

One of the nation’s most controversial abortion doctors was gunned down Sunday in his Kansas church as he handed out programs for Sunday services, officials said.

Dr. George Tiller, 67, one of only three U.S. doctors who performed late-term abortions, was killed just after 10 a.m. at Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita, where he was an usher.”

From Pr Newswire:

“I believe George Tiller was one of the most evil men on the planet; every bit as vile as the Nazi war criminals who were hunted down, tried, and sentenced after they participated in the ‘legal’ murder of the Jews that fell into their hands. But even Mr. Tiller – like other murderers – deserved a trial of his peers, and a legal execution, not vigilantly justice.”

The USA is becoming a Nation of Cremations

The USA is becoming a Nation of Cremations

It is not an organization. It is simply the folks choosing cremation in the USA. The United States is now the Cremation nation. Folks are choosing cremation all over this land. This trend will continue faster than estimated.

It is in in the interest of those giving out these numbers to report a slow rise in cremation. Funeral Associations and Casket Companies have a reason to report low cremation rates. Yet they are showing us larger and larger cremation numbers.

With that in mind the NUMBERS are overwhelming.  According to
1. Nevada – 69.93%
2. Washington – 69.21%
3. Oregon – 66.62%
4. Hawaii – 66.53%
5. Arizona – 63.53%
6. Montana – 60.78
7. District of Columbia – 59.97
8. Vermont – 59.71%
9. Colorado – 59.57%
10. Maine – 58.44

From Obit-Mag.

1972 “less than 5 percent of the dead were cremated — and all but unheard of in the South”

1982 “Even a decade later, not quite 12 percent of deaths in America resulted in cremation.”

1985 “The percentage of deaths in the United States resulting in cremation rose from 14.9 in 1985 to…”

2006 “..33.6 in 2006, according to a report released last year by the Chicago-based Cremation Association of North America (CANA).”

2009 “If current trends persist, the group says, the cremation rate will be 39 percent by next year.”(2010)

Save money, the Average Cost of  a funeral according to the National Funeral Directors Association was $7.323.00 Dollars in 2007. I have predicted the average cost of a Funeral in 2009 to be $8,500.00 usd in 2009. With a little shopping around one should be able to do a cremation for under $1.000 USD. That includes the ceremony but not a burial.

Funeral Scandals need to be reported in order to save you money

Funeral Scandals need to be reported in order to save you money

Funeral scandals need to be reported because it helps the consumer come in under the average cost of a funeral. It also makes the consumer aware  of ways they can keep funeral directors honest. Researching funeral scandal is quite a boring task . The bottom line is funeral scandals are good for you if are not a victim.

Service Corporation has had  an extraordinary amount of  scandals this year. There are excellent SCI Funeral Directors out there. Some are my friends. Reports in the press and other places indicate a corporate cultural problem at SCI. It may be in the core culture of SCI Management.

The problem  some believe goes to the outdated  business model as reflected in recent numbers. The problems need to continue to be reported and brought to public and funeral directors attention.

It will be a great day when the company corrects the problem or funeral directors through self or State Regulators make the corrections needed.

The Illinois funeral Directors Association Preneed Ponzi scheme (IFDA) and the National Prearranged Services fraud have been blogged about because reporting on preneed scandals makes folks aware of the perils of preneed.  It helps people lower their

Roland Burris Has Declared his innocence in the ILLINOIS FUNERAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION SCAM

Roland Burris Has Declared his innocence in the ILLINOIS FUNERAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION SCAM

State of Illinois Senator Roland Burris has declared himself innocent in the Illinois Funeral Directors Ponzi Scheme. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen.  It  seems that  Senator Roland Burris thinks that a mistep(Fraud?) 30 years ago may not apply to him today.

But the fact of the matter he lobbied for the Preneed Trust Scam in 2oo7. That is not 30 years ago. The fund which lost and misappropriated funeral funds has losses estimated between 59 and 100 million dollars.

Here is a quote from the State Journal Register Interview with  Roland Burris about  his role in the Illinois Funeral Scam.

*Burris said he had no improper role with a pre-need trust fund formerly overseen by the Illinois Funeral Directors Association.

“Burris was state comptroller when the IFDA was given authority to oversee the trust fund and later acted as lobbyist for the group.

After the trust fund ran into financial and legal difficulty, current Comptroller Dan Hynes stripped the IFDA of its trust fund role.

“I don’t have any reason to discuss that issue,” Burris said. “I was comptroller 30 years ago.”

Asked if he offered any solutions to problems with the fund when he was lobbying for the group, he said, “No, I was just giving them access to the government people. That’s all I was doing.”

Certainly in the name of honesty Roland Burris has reason to discuss this issue. Citizens of the state want him to talk on this Scandal.  Illinois Senator Roland Burris refuses to declare his role or how he was paid by the scam, perpetuated by the  Illinois Funeral Directors Association.
