“Have a plan
Because Facebook, MySpace and other online sites and services typically won’t give your family access to your account without a lot of paperwork and possibly a court order, make sure you have a plan for what happens to your digital assets after you die.•The old-fashioned way: Include a list of your online accounts, the login information and instructions for each in your will or a document family members can access.
•Online services: Sites such as legacylocker.com and assetlock.net allow you to safely store your online-account information and designate beneficiaries. You can also store letters and videos to be distributed to family members after you die. To use the sites, you designate people who must verify that you have died before your information is released. Both sites charge for their services, and prices range from $10 a year to $300 for a lifetime membership. Another service, Deathswitch.com, costs $20 a year and will send e-mail messages to friends and family after you die. Legacy Locker and Deathswitch both have a free option.
Whichever method you choose, make sure to update information about your digital assets regularly.”
