Wal- Mart is selling Caskets on Line

Wal- Mart is selling Caskets on Line

Some think it is a Halloween joke. Others think Wal-Mart is selling Chinese caskets. The Star Legacy Caskets are made in America.  Funeral directors are saying it will not work, and to follow their expert advice and use their funeral home instead. The new president of the (NFDA)National Funeral Directors Association  Pat Lynch argued this incorrectly.

Some funeral directors are even suggesting that Wal Mart is selling pre need illegally because folks are given the option to pay over 12months. Walmart is not selling funeral services. The only ones selling preneed illegally are funeral directors, through the IFDA, NPS, and other insurance scams, and simple theft.

Many state that Walmart  “in death do us part” is just the 100 billion plus company  under pricing another American Institution, the Funeral home. Many consumers around the country were very happy with low priced caskets at the country’s largest retailer stating that they are upset about being ripped off by “the American Way of Death”. Some of the consumers have gone as far as to call Wal-Mart heroic for selling Caskets. I agree with the heroic part.

If someone dies you can have them memoralized on Facebook

If someone dies you can have them memoralized on Facebook and still connect.

On Monday Facebook gave some perspective on  profile memoralization procedures.  We have addressed this before. This appeared on the Official Facebook Blog:

“We understand how difficult it can be for people to be reminded of those who are no longer with them, which is why it’s important when someone passes away that their friends or family contact Facebook to request that a profile be memorialized. For instance, just last week, we introduced new types of Suggestions that appear on the right-hand side of the home page and remind people to take actions with friends who need help on Facebook. By memorializing the account of someone who has passed away, people will no longer see that person appear in their Suggestions.

When an account is memorialized, we also set privacy so that only confirmed friends can see the profile or locate it in search. We try to protect the deceased’s privacy by removing sensitive information such as contact information and status updates. Memorializing an account also prevents anyone from logging into it in the future, while still enabling friends and family to leave posts on the profile Wall in remembrance.

If you have a friend or a family member whose profile should be memorialized, please contact us, so their memory can properly live on among their friends on Facebook.”-Max Kelley-via blog.facebook.com

IMPORTANT: This form is solely for the reporting of a deceased person to memorialize the person’s account. Memorializing the account removes certain sensitive information and sets privacy so that only confirmed friends can see the profile or locate it in search. The Wall remains so that friends and family can leave posts in remembrance. Please note that unrelated inquiries through this form may not receive a response.

The National Funeral Directors Association, NFDA, has given some support to the Bereaved Consumer Bill of Rights Act(also known as the Rush Bill, and the Bereaved Consumers Protection act) The bill which ends some funeral deceptions, and brings cemeteries under the funeral rule, contains much needed funeral and cemetery reform including some unbundling of funeral packages.

600px-US_Congressional_Seal.svgThe extend of the NFDA’s Executive Board endorsement is not known at this time. It will be made available shortly.

“The NFDA Executive Board also voiced its support of the Bereaved Consumers Protection Act, referred to as the Rush Bill after U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) who introduced the bill on Sept. 22. Rush said the bill is designed to strengthen funeral home and cemetery regulation. Rush, who is chairman of the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection, said his bill is in response to the allegations made at Burr Oak Cemetery. In general, the bill calls on the FTC to “prescribe rules prohibiting unfair or deceptive acts or practices in the provision of funeral services.”-MemorialBusinessJournal

The Chicago Area has seen arise in indigent Funerals

People are having trouble paying for funerals.

Cook County had about 30 percent more indigent burials in 2008 than the previous year. And coroners around the country say the number of government-paid burials and cremations started to rise when the economy tanked. Some cash-strapped localities have tapped into reserves or emergency funds to cover the cost.
