The state board that licenses funeral homes in Ohio has opened an investigation into a funeral director in Findlay, Ohio, who is accused of mishandling a corpse, being naked in public and wearing the jacket of a deceased man in front of his family.

Though Gregory Routson, owner of Routson Funeral Chapel, is not facing any criminal charges, his funeral home has been closed pending an investigation, according to a notice of suspension issued Monday by the State of Ohio Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors.

State regulators said they began the investigation after receiving a complaint from a family last week.

CBS2 in Chicago has discovered a most horrific funeral scandal in Chicago-A Funeral Director operating with a revoked license,  being  involved  in improper care of human remains, and financial scamming of clients. At the public viewing one could see how the maggots and insects ate the eyes

Snippet:

A woman saying goodbye to her mother found a horrific surprise at the funeral home service. A problem so disturbing it brought her to tears. Then, she discovered the man handling the funeral wasn’t even supposed to be — he had a revoked license. CBS 2 Investigator Dave Savini reports.

Deazail Whitman says last September, her mother Brownetta Whitman passed away after suffering from brain cancer. She ended up at Seals Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Chicago.

It was there, at the family’s private visitation, that Whitman says she saw eye damage on her mother caused by insects and maggots.

“They actually ate the edge of her eyelids up,” said Whitman. “I just broke down and started crying. I couldn’t catch my breath because it was just too overwhelming.via cbs2chicago.com

The Federal Trade Commision (FTC)in 2008 found funeral homes to be out of compliance with the law. The most basic compliance under the funeral rule is to give each customer a general price list and show the customer a casket price list.

Many funeral homes have little regard for the law only the money

FTC enforcement of the Funeral Rule  is usually  minimal. There is no excuse for these violations. Funeral Directors know the law and as shown below often have little regard for it.

FTC inspections during 2008 revealed a mixed compliance record:

  • In Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska, two of 11 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; five had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Northeastern Arkansas, 11 of 15 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; four had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Orange County, California, two significant violations were found among 18 funeral homes inspected; nine had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, one of 16 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; seven had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Nassau County, New York, two of 18 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; three had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In Toledo, Ohio, one of 15 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; nine had minor compliance deficiencies.
  • In San Antonio, Texas, seven of 11 funeral homes inspected had significant violations; one had minor compliance deficiencies.

The Funeral Home that placed the wrong body in the wrong casket for a viewing  was not properly registered with the State of Colorado. The State of Colorado has closed Pipkin Funeral Home until it’s investigation of the matter of the wrong body in the wrong Casket is closed. there was also another incident here they buried the deceased  in a wrong casket.

The State of Colorado has closed the wrong body, wrong Casket Funeral Home

The state has ordered a funeral home that mixed up the bodies of two women to close next week so regulators can investigate the incident.

Pipkin Mortuary mistakenly buried the remains of Imogene Jackson, 64, in a casket that should have held Evelyn Jackson.

The interred body was exhumed, and Pipkin held Imogene Jackson’s funeral Saturday.

Chris Lines, spokesman for the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, said the mortuary will be shut down as of Monday as the state investigates.

“We will want an accounting of everything that happened in this situation,” Line said.

Pipkin was already in violation of regulations calling for all funeral homes in the state to register by Jan. 1, Lines said. Funeral homes have had since November to submit their applications.

Pipkin officials brought in their registration application Monday morning.

The state won’t review the application until the investigation is complete.”via www.denverpost.com
