Funeral Scandals need to be reported in order to save you money

Funeral Scandals need to be reported in order to save you money

Funeral scandals need to be reported because it helps the consumer come in under the average cost of a funeral. It also makes the consumer aware  of ways they can keep funeral directors honest. Researching funeral scandal is quite a boring task . The bottom line is funeral scandals are good for you if are not a victim.

Service Corporation has had  an extraordinary amount of  scandals this year. There are excellent SCI Funeral Directors out there. Some are my friends. Reports in the press and other places indicate a corporate cultural problem at SCI. It may be in the core culture of SCI Management.

The problem  some believe goes to the outdated  business model as reflected in recent numbers. The problems need to continue to be reported and brought to public and funeral directors attention.

It will be a great day when the company corrects the problem or funeral directors through self or State Regulators make the corrections needed.

The Illinois funeral Directors Association Preneed Ponzi scheme (IFDA) and the National Prearranged Services fraud have been blogged about because reporting on preneed scandals makes folks aware of the perils of preneed.  It helps people lower their

Roland Burris Has Declared his innocence in the ILLINOIS FUNERAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION SCAM

Roland Burris Has Declared his innocence in the ILLINOIS FUNERAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION SCAM

State of Illinois Senator Roland Burris has declared himself innocent in the Illinois Funeral Directors Ponzi Scheme. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen.  It  seems that  Senator Roland Burris thinks that a mistep(Fraud?) 30 years ago may not apply to him today.

But the fact of the matter he lobbied for the Preneed Trust Scam in 2oo7. That is not 30 years ago. The fund which lost and misappropriated funeral funds has losses estimated between 59 and 100 million dollars.

Here is a quote from the State Journal Register Interview with  Roland Burris about  his role in the Illinois Funeral Scam.

*Burris said he had no improper role with a pre-need trust fund formerly overseen by the Illinois Funeral Directors Association.

“Burris was state comptroller when the IFDA was given authority to oversee the trust fund and later acted as lobbyist for the group.

After the trust fund ran into financial and legal difficulty, current Comptroller Dan Hynes stripped the IFDA of its trust fund role.

“I don’t have any reason to discuss that issue,” Burris said. “I was comptroller 30 years ago.”

Asked if he offered any solutions to problems with the fund when he was lobbying for the group, he said, “No, I was just giving them access to the government people. That’s all I was doing.”

Certainly in the name of honesty Roland Burris has reason to discuss this issue. Citizens of the state want him to talk on this Scandal.  Illinois Senator Roland Burris refuses to declare his role or how he was paid by the scam, perpetuated by the  Illinois Funeral Directors Association.

Now Is the right time to negotiate a Lower Cost Funeral

Now Is the right time to negotiate a Lower Cost Funeral

Now is a good  time to find your local funeral director willing to discuss lower funeral costs. You can come in under the average cost of a funeral. Many folks are somewhat surprised to discover that they do not have to accept the options and the prices offered. A lower cost funeral can be negotiated.  In many cases now the funeral home is expecting you to come in and ask for lower funeral expenses. There are several reasons  for this.

1. Funeral homes are having a tough time just like you. They know times are tough. The economic hardships have hit them just like you.  There have been reports of even funeral homes cutting back  in the press.

2. The Media has been exploding with stories on the rise of cremation as lower a cost option. It is best to shop around for a cremation as they can run from $625.00 to $2200.oo dollars plus. If you want to save on costs, chose cremation but shop around.

3. Two recent cases of alleged fraud in Illinois (IFDA) and Missouri(NPS) Lawsuits around the country are causing folks to take notice of  funeral directors and their excesses. Folks simply are willing to shop around  for  a  lower cost funeral as a result

4. The Recent  Exposure of National Funeral Home,  with Service Corporation International’s  mistreatment of corpse is steering folks to lower cost options and lower cost funeral homes. The lesson there is to avoid a corporate funeral homes as much as possible.

Negotiate Now with the Funeral Home, it's the right time to drop costs below the average cost of a funeral

If  you have  the time you may be able to  find a low cost funeral home in your area like Barton Family Funeral Service ( Cremation $625 in Washington State), or  Simple Funerals Funerals ($ 835 Funeral) near  Detroit Michigan.

Most experts declare the average cost of a Funeral to be about $10,000 USD. I have declared the average cost of a funeral to be $8,500.00+ USD in 2009

Roland Burris and Illinois Funeral Directors Association need to give Answers Now in Ponzi Scheme.

Roland Burris and Illinois Funeral Directors Association need to give Answers Now in Ponzi Scheme.

Roland Burris a sitting US Senator (D-IL) still has not answered questions from a Springfield Illinois Newspaper about his involvement in the IFDA Preneed Trust Ponzi scheme. It is now it is almost 2 Months after The World Net Daily article of January 16th 2009, where his questionable involvement with the IFDA was first reported.

In a  March 5th Editorial entitled “Our opinion: Cleaning up Funeral Mess a Big Job” it was noted that Senator Roland Burris has not responded to questions from the State Journal Register.

* The IFDA would never have been allowed into the trust fund business had then-Comptroller Roland Burris not authorized it to manage the trust in 1980. The IFDA later was a lobbying client for Burris, who met with state officials in 2007 after Comptroller Dan Hynes’ office warned that the fund had a $39 million deficit. Hynes stripped the IFDA of authority to manage the trust in September of that year and ruled that it never should have had that authority.

“Burris, now a U.S. senator, owes an explanation on his role in both those events. (He has not responded to The State Journal-Register’s questions.)”

The Illinois Funeral Directors Association needs to take responsibility for it’s Madoff like Ponzi scheme here. As stated in the Editorial :

“They were paying Beneficiary A’s benefits with Beneficiary B’s contributions,” said John Duggan, an Aurora attorney who has filed a similar suit. “That’s a classic Ponzi scheme.”

IFDA Leaders may end up being prosecuted and do the “purp walk” It certainly is quite possible that Senator Roland Burris-Dem Il- may be prosecuted as well.
