Do You know what will happen to Your Digital Assets When you die?

Digital(online) assets are important in many funerals today. I predict in the near future they will be a part of every Funeral Arrangement. It used to be that all your records kept on paper, but today they are mostly on a computer, and the internet.

We haven’t truly seen the breadth of this issue play out yet, but I’m telling you, this is a huge problem,” said Chicago lawyer Karin C. Prangley, who has spoken on the topic at conferences. “Ten or 15 years ago, someone could go into your house and find the paper trail if you die. Now the paper trail is online.”via www.washingtonpost.comWhen Someone Dies Accessing their records is very  important

We’re in an era now where people are really going to have to pay attention to what their online assets are,” Toeman said. “Five years ago, that terminology — digital assets — didn’t even make sense. Now it does.via www.washingtonpost.com

Death can cone upon us suddenly, online assets need to be take care of

1. Write down Your important online login, blogs, websites,  and other information. Store it away in as safe place  with your other funeral plans. Follow up by sending it to at trusted relative

2. Employ an online digital lockers.

From the Orlando Sentinel

“Have a plan
Because Facebook, MySpace and other online sites and services typically won’t give your family access to your account without a lot of paperwork and possibly a court order, make sure you have a plan for what happens to your digital assets after you die.

•The old-fashioned way: Include a list of your online accounts, the login information and instructions for each in your will or a document family members can access.

Online services: Sites such as legacylocker.com and assetlock.net allow you to safely store your online-account information and designate beneficiaries. You can also store letters and videos to be distributed to family members after you die. To use the sites, you designate people who must verify that you have died before your information is released. Both sites charge for their services, and prices range from $10 a year to $300 for a lifetime membership. Another service, Deathswitch.com, costs $20 a year and will send e-mail messages to friends and family after you die. Legacy Locker and Deathswitch both have a free option.

Whichever method you choose, make sure to update information about your digital assets regularly.”

Taking Action on these matters, will bring you in under Average Funeral Cost, the average cost of a funeral. Be sure to complete your virtual asset Funeral Planning Right Away.

Eternal Space an online cemetery has died

Eternal Space an online cemetery has died

The first virtual online cemetery Eternal Space  is no more. Online memorials have been around for a while but an an online virtual cemetery is quite  a leap forward. It is a great concept and will become realityin the near future.

Marketing to funeral directors may have not been the best idea or business plan. Funeral Directors have been slow to accept the internet or  change.

Choosing the right target market is the key to any business.

From ConnectingDirectors.com

‘If you are wondering who EternalSpace is, they are the start-up company who blew through millions of dollars to launch a online memorial/virtual graveside site that was open for business for 30 days before investors pulled the plug. I received a call from the company’s Vice President last week explaining the situation……..

Although EternalSpace got great online and offline press this was not enough for investors.

Although EternalSpace got great online and offline press this was not enough for investors.

even with fair warning, the investors and leaders of the company couldn’t grasp the fact that the funeral industry is much slower to accept new product and introduce that product into the arrangement room or to client families than other industries.

So, like anyone who expects outragous returns on millions of dollars they invest, the investors freaked out and cut off funding when the product didn’t spread like wild fire through the industry right away. I mean the thousands of dollars they spent on ads in the

publications just came out last week.”
