Funeral Scandals need to be reported in order to save you money
Funeral scandals need to be reported because it helps the consumer come in under the average cost of a funeral. It also makes the consumer aware of ways they can keep funeral directors honest. Researching funeral scandal is quite a boring task . The bottom line is funeral scandals are good for you if are not a victim.
Service Corporation has had an extraordinary amount of scandals this year. There are excellent SCI Funeral Directors out there. Some are my friends. Reports in the press and other places indicate a corporate cultural problem at SCI. It may be in the core culture of SCI Management.
The problem some believe goes to the outdated business model as reflected in recent numbers. The problems need to continue to be reported and brought to public and funeral directors attention.
It will be a great day when the company corrects the problem or funeral directors through self or State Regulators make the corrections needed.
The Illinois funeral Directors Association Preneed Ponzi scheme (IFDA) and the National Prearranged Services fraud have been blogged about because reporting on preneed scandals makes folks aware of the perils of preneed. It helps people lower their

funeral costs and come in under the average cost of a funeral.
For these reasons, it is best to make folks aware of reports in the press.
Illinois Regulators have taken over part of Funeral Fund and have appointed themselves Administrators.
The State of Illinois has Taken Over A Funeral Preneed Fund. This has to do with the Illinois Funeral Directors Association Ponzi Scheme involving a loss of a $59 Million dollars in 300 Million dollar funeral fund. This all happened on Wednesday May 20th 2009.
Merrill Lynch Bank and Trust (MLBT) is the trustee for the IFDA Preneed Trust. Evidently the regulators trusted Merrill Lynch to take the money and settle. There appears not to be enough trust for Merrill Lynch to be given the $18 million as a trustee. The regulators in Illinois will disperse the money to funeral directors and their clients.
The State of Illinois has taken over part of the IFDA Funeral preneed fund. This was done by an order by the Division of Insurance in Illinois. This is clearly over reaching because it had noting to do with any kind of bailout or tax payer fund.
The State of Illinois will control Funeral Directors preneed funds… How can this be? Should the government control your funeral money?

The IFDA, Illinois Funeral Directors Association lost $ 59 Million in their Scandal. One of the major players in the Preneed Scam is Illinois Senator Roland Burris who created the fund( as IL comptroller Burris gave the IFDA their license to manage the fund) in 1980.
Burris was a lobbyist on behalf of the fund in 2007. The current IL comptroller took the license to manage the fund away from the IFDA.
A current Executive at the National Funeral Directors Association is also connected to the mess.
Randall L Earl is Secretary of the NFDA and Director of the “Illinois Funeral Directors Association Museum of Funeral Customs” He is also a past President 0f the IFDA.
This museum has received $250,000 dollars of Diverted IFDA funds according to a Springfield, IL State Journal Register Article. Articles on the Museum of Funeral Customs which Earl directs have been featured at the New York Times, the Springfield Il, SJR and United Press International.

Roland Burris and Illinois Funeral Directors Association need to give Answers Now in Ponzi Scheme.
Roland Burris a sitting US Senator (D-IL) still has not answered questions from a Springfield Illinois Newspaper about his involvement in the IFDA Preneed Trust Ponzi scheme. It is now it is almost 2 Months after The World Net Dailyarticle of January 16th 2009, where his questionable involvement with the IFDA was first reported.
In a March 5th Editorial entitled “Our opinion: Cleaning up Funeral Mess a Big Job” it was noted that Senator Roland Burris has not responded to questions from the State Journal Register.
* The IFDA would never have been allowed into the trust fund business had then-Comptroller Roland Burris not authorized it to manage the trust in 1980. The IFDA later was a lobbying client for Burris, who met with state officials in 2007 after Comptroller Dan Hynes’ office warned that the fund had a $39 million deficit. Hynes stripped the IFDA of authority to manage the trust in September of that year and ruled that it never should have had that authority.
“Burris, now a U.S. senator, owes an explanation on his role in both those events. (He has not responded to The State Journal-Register’s questions.)”
The Illinois Funeral Directors Associationneeds to take responsibility for it’s Madoff like Ponzi scheme here. As stated in the Editorial:
“They were paying Beneficiary A’s benefits with Beneficiary B’s contributions,” said John Duggan, an Aurora attorney who has filed a similar suit. “That’s a classic Ponzi scheme.”
IFDA Leaders may end up being prosecuted and do the “purp walk” It certainly is quite possible that Senator Roland Burris-Dem Il- may be prosecuted as well.
