Please it is no fault of Arlington National Cemetery that the Service Corporation Embalming Facility abused

Blame the folks at National Funeral Home an SCI Facility with Central Embalming on the pictured Property.

Blame the folks at National Funeral Home an SCI Facility with Central Embalming on the pictured Property. They are the ones that abused corpses of veterans.

Veterans Corpses. The waiting period for burial at Arlington National Cemetery has been there for years.

Great embalmers have been embalming loved ones in Northern Virginia for  a long time. Just because SCI pulled one of their careless  management stunts disrespecting deceased folks is no reason to fault ANC.

It has been sad to see people commenting in news reports, funeral director forums, and military discussion boards that  somehow Arlington National Cemetery is partially at fault.

Our National Cemetery system is the greatest in the world. The death benefits given to veterans show great respect for their service.

ANC is set up up to do 26+ Services a day more if their are -columbarium burials. That is all the property can handle. National Cemeteries have been set up across the country, to offset the problem. Arlington National Cemetery is not the culprit. There are limits to the number of burials that can be done in a day perfectly timed, with horses, caissons, honor guards, services, flowers, military bands  aircraft flyovers, family members, and funeral directors.

Arlington National Cemetery is not responsible for Service Corporation International's treatment of Veterans Bodies at National Funeral Home

Funeral Directors and Management were not honest with themselves or their customers.

Funeral Directors and Management were not honest with themselves or their customers.

Death is hard enough to deal with. This report  hurts every human being on earth. Our basic human instinct is to respect the dead. There seemed to be none of that at Demaine Funeral Home and National Funeral Home in Northern Virginia. This according to the report in the Washington Post.

The Virginia Service Corporation International horror story on the treatment of veterans and  loved ones comes down to three problems, honesty,  management, and an embalming problem.

That said the scenario that went down at  the  SCI Facilities: Demaine Funeral  Home and the Central Embalming Facility(National Funeral Home) could not have been thought up, it is beyond comprehension.

A brief snippet of the conditions observed by a customer from the  Washington Post Article:

the foul odor of decomposition smacked him in the face. A body lay on a gurney in the garage near a rack holding coffins, and the walk-in cooler where his father was to be left was filled with exposed bodies.”

First the folks were not honest with themselves about what was happening. Management, employees and embalmers “all” threw true”DIGNITY” out the window. The few who blew the whistle chose to do the right thing. The David and Goliath odds in this situation were  not good.

Second Management had it’s head in the sand. Managers knew what was going on. The fact that families were not allowed to come to the central embalming facility is a clue to the deceptions involved.

Management needs to be dealt with at all levels. Robert Waltrip the CEO and Founder of SCI needs to step aside. Too many instances like this have happened over the years. I am not going to name them here. It has been done elsewhere.

Third, Embalmers and employees threw their training and professionalism out the window. Basic embalming standards and procedures were not followed. Standards need to be applied and enforced.

The good news is that other firms in the area treat the deceased with respect. Veterans are treated with the utmost kindness- having worked in the area this is what  I saw  this in  how I was trained.

“Most embalmers  in  Northern Virginia, access refrigeration one way or another. The highest standards are generally observed in

handling loved ones going to Arlington National Cemetery. Helpful  Embalmers check bodies of veterans headed to ANC every other day or so. They have deep respect for the Veteran. I have seen embalmers undress veterans after being casketed, re embalm and re casket them when needed.”-Your Funeral Guy.

Please do not put all funeral directors in the Northern Virginia area in the category of those at Demaine and National Funeral Home. This has been happening on the WEB in comments in forums by funeral directors and the public alike.

The largest funeral corporation in the world has been found to be abusing folks deceased loved ones just outside of Washington

Service Corporation International has been accused

Service Corporation International has been accused of abusing corpses in the DC Area. Some were United States veterans.

DC. This Scandal was a discovered by a customer of “Demaine Funeral Home“, a Service Corporation International Home in Alexandria,Virginia. The man’s deceased  father was taken not to the home of choice, “Demaine” but instead an SCI Central embalming facility where he was confronted with stench from corpses in the Garage.

The location is  National Funeral Home in Falls Church,Virginia. It is a few miles from the “Nations Capitol.” Employees also informed regulators and one had pictures with appropriate details. An investigation is ongoing. SCI has been guilty of this before.

This story was reported by the Washington Post with an excellent article and video

The Title of the Washington Post Article is: ‘I Never Could Have Imagined’
Dignity Was Denied the Dead as Bodies Were Stored and Handled Using ‘Disturbing’ Methods, Area Funeral Home Workers Say

It was reported that Veterans were among those that were abused. Some were on their way to Arlington National Cemetery. From the article:

“At least half a dozen veterans destined for the hallowed ground at Arlington National Cemetery were left in their coffins on a garage

rack,”

Specific dates, individuals, deceased individuals, families, and funeral homes are well documented in this situation. SCI will have a tough time with this one.

To be fair SCI is doing their own investigation, but so are Virginia Authorities.

The Lesson for the consumer is DO NOT USE A SERVICE CORPORATION INTERNATIONAL FUNERAL HOME FOR ANY REASON, EVER!

To think I just had lunch with some SCI Folks this past week. They did not mention this.
