Sky News has offered up some criticism of Alkaline Hydrolysis, or green cremation, resomation. Belgium Funeral Directors are seeking to get the  process approved by the EU Commission for their nation.

Snippet From Sky News:

“The Flemish Association of Undertakers is now trying to get permission to carry out the green procedure, which is known as chemical hydrolysis.

Bodies are dissolved by placing them in a container of water and salts. The mixture is then pressurized and after about two hours, all that remains is mineral ash and a liquid gunk.

The body sludge could then be given to relatives to flush away as a final goodbye.

But the idea is controversial in a country which has strong religious beliefs.

Many people associate the idea with something out of a gangster movie – an awkward character or witness is disposed of by the mob in an acid bath.

First a sludge is not  produced in the process but a  clearer water residue. That residue can quickly be changed into an effective fertilizer.

Secondly ashes are  returned to the  family as is the case in a traditional  funeral cremation.

Thirdly you will not be dealing with gangsters but funeral directors. Some do consider funeral directors to be gangsters. Some are, but is in their best interest not to behave like the mob.

There is new way to keep a loved one with you after you die. Put the Loved one’s ashes in your tattoo.  This may funeral personalization gone too far  but it has happened.

Snippet

Kim Mordue lost her son to a drug overdose and decided to get a tattoo to help her remember him. She didn’t get any normal tattoo, though: Kim Mordue mixed her son’s ashes in with the ink in her tattoo.

I think this is an excellent idea to help preserve the memory of a loved one. Kim Mordue’s tattoo consists of a cabala tree, an angel releasing a butterfly, and a poem for her son. Her husband, who owns a tattoo parlor, did the tattoo, keeping the whole thing a family affair.

Mrs Mordue said: ‘I spent a long time researching the tattoos – they and Lloyd will be with me for the rest of my life. ‘Everyone has been very positive about my tattoos. My friends and family love it. ‘People have been quite excited by it and have said they’d like an ashes tattoo done too. I think it will catch on.’ (dailymail)

One of the important things that you need to understand in the cremation process is what happens to the bones of the deceased. Bones are a key factor in the cultural beliefs about  death, and dying. In a cremation usually bones have to be ground to ashes. More video on cremation as a funeral alternative.
