The Neon Man and Me is set to air on Sunday on PBS. Wilbert Funeral services is a Funeral Vault Company-
“Wilbert Funeral Services, on behalf of the Wilbert Foundation, has agreed to be a national sponsor for “The Neon Man and Me,” according to a news release. This award-winning program is set to air later this month on Public Broadcasting System television stations throughout the United States. “The Neon Man and Me” is a one-man show created and produced by storyteller Slash Coleman. The show centers on the untimely death of Coleman’s best friend, who made a living hanging neon signs. It’s an uplifting tale about best friends that explores family, following your heart, and a journey home. In addition, it’s a powerful story that illustrates how everyone can talk openly about their feelings related to bereavement, loss and friendship. Coleman’s intent for creating this performance was to produce something that his friend’s son – conceived just weeks before the electrical accident that claimed his friend’s life – could look to someday to learn about his dad. The Off-Broadway show has enjoyed four national tours and reviews in The New York Times, The Washington Post, American Theatre Magazine, Backstage Magazine, NPR and ABC News. The televised version is now set to air beginning March21,2010″.via www.katesboylston.com

It is going on in Korea according to the Los Angeles Times. Snippet:
“Jung, a slight 39-year-old with an undertaker’s blue suit and a preacher’s demeanor, is a resolute counselor on the ever-after who welcomes clients with the invitation, “OK, today let’s get close to death.”
Jung runs a seminar called the Coffin Academy, where, for $25 each, South Koreans can get a glimpse into the abyss. Over four hours, groups of a dozen or more tearfully write their letters of goodbye and tombstone epitaphs. Finally, they attend their own funerals and try the coffin on for size.
In a candle-lighted chapel, each climbs into one of the austere wooden caskets laid side by side on the floor. Lying face up, their arms crossed over their chests, they close their eyes. And there they rest, for 10 excruciating minutes.
“It’s a way to let go of certain things,” says Jung, a former insurance company lecturer. “Afterward, you feel refreshed. You’re ready to start your life all over again, this time with a clean slate.”

The rise in cremation in the USA will continue. This is as projected. Funeral Corporate leaders in explaining away traditional funeral numbers have implied the situation is temporary. Although some are turned off by the irreversibility of the cremation process here will be more use of urns, and columbariums. There will be less use of caskets.
Cremation has affected the sales at Batesville Casket Company,(Hillenbrand, Inc) the world’s largest casket company according to the CEO.
North American burials continued to decline in the fourth quarter, even as the number of deaths returned to a more normal seasonal level,” said Kenneth Camp, president and CEO, in the release. “We believe the economic uncertainties have prompted some families to opt for cremation at a rate greater than we’ve seen in the past.”
