A Man who runs a company accepting organ donations has been arrested and Jailed in New Mexico. It appears that the company that accepted organ donations  did not do cremations as promised. The Scandal seems to go from Kansas City to New Mexico.

Organ Donation Company Failed to perform cremations as promised

“Albuquerque, N.M., police on Thursday arrested the man who they think has the answers to questions from families whose loved ones’ bodies were donated to science at an Albuquerque company. The company’s owner, Paul Montano, 31, is in jail charged with three counts of fraud over $500.
Authorities believe Montano, who owns Bio Care, is linked to the seven heads, torso and 12 tubs of body parts found at Stericycle last month.

Court records allege that Montano’s business did not provide promised cremations on donated bodies. His alleged motive was not immediately known. Montano pleaded not guilty Thursday at a court hearing in New Mexico, and his bond was set at $50,000.”via www.kansascity.com

The Chicago Area has seen arise in indigent Funerals

The Chicago Area has seen arise in indigent Funerals

People are having trouble paying for funerals.

Cook County had about 30 percent more indigent burials in 2008 than the previous year. And coroners around the country say the number of government-paid burials and cremations started to rise when the economy tanked. Some cash-strapped localities have tapped into reserves or emergency funds to cover the cost.

New Jersey Funeral Directors Raise costs

New Jersey Funeral Directors Raise costs

There is funeral squeeze on funeral directors Because of increase costs of traditional Funerals in New Jersey and surrounding states, Funeral Directors have grown Funeral Prices by 12 percent. This is not good for funeral prices in the traditional funeral business.

Traditional Funeral Services in New Jersey and surrounding states have risen. But the demand for the lower cost funeral continues as Death becomes more expensive.

Having to raise funeral and expenses is not helpful when people are demanding to pay less.

“Even dying is getting more expensive.

The average price for basic funeral home services in New Jersey and surrounding states has risen an average of 12 percent over the last year, according to an annual study released Tuesday.

The pricing increases are the result of several converging trends, including a growing consumer preference for low-margin services like cremations and immediate burials,”

Bodies are piling up around the USA, Indigent funerals are exploding and folks are not claiming their loved one’s  on purpose. People Simply do not have the money. In spite of all this some claim the recession is over. People lack funds for burials.

iStock_000006322387XSmall“Death sure isn’t cheap. The average price of a casket is $2,000, according to U.S. Funerals online.

When you factor in the funeral service, it’s downright expensive to die. And in this economy, many people simply cannot afford the high cost of death, which might explain why bodies are piling up in morgues and the demand for publicly funded burials is on the rise.

In one Detroit morgue, even the county can’t afford to bury the dead people piling up.CNN reports that in Wayne County bodies are piling up inside the freezers in the morgue.  Families are not claiming the bodies and the county can’t afford the burials of the corpses.”Some people don’t come forward even though they know the people are here,” Albert Samuels, chief investigator for the morgue, told CNN. “They don’t have the money.”Wayne County now has a record number of unclaimed bodies, and the county budget to deal with this issue is only $21,000 annually – not nearly enough money to remedy the problem.

Furthermore, coroners and funeral directors in other major cities have seen a spike in the number of people looking for government-paid funerals, burials and cremations, according to USA Today.”People just aren’t in a position to pay $7,000 for a private funeral and burial,” Lt. David Smith of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office told USA Today.  The Los Angeles County coroner’s office has seen a 97% increase in indigent deaths from January to June 2009, and Las Vegas has seen a 22% increase in the past year…..
