Being a Funeral Director and an expert on digital death, and digital assets I had a  schedule conflict Thursday and could not attend the first Digital Death Day un-conference in California.

The First Digital Death Day was May 20th, 2010

Regretable, as conversations on Digital Death are important to Funerals as the day is coming soon that Digital Dying  will be apart of every Funeral Arrangement. In the years ahead digital assets (Web sites, Facebook Pages, E-Mail Acocunts, Blogs, and everything else internet) will  be as important to end of life as a traditional  will and Funeral Have been up to now.

I am grateful that Evan Carroll  of thedigitalbeyond.com could attend and report on this event.

The disposition of digital assets is important to many professions.

Here is a limited list.

authors,

researchers,

technologists,

funeral directors,

estate planners,

attorneys,

and entrepreneurs.

“So What Will Happen to You Digital Assets WhenYou Die? Right now it is up to you. Facebook has a policy For Page owners to be Memorialized in Death. But even this Can Be confusing. Last year I had a picture of the book “Rest in Peace” up on my Face book a page and one of my Friends thought I Had passed on!

Digital assets have been discussed in many Your Funeral Guy Blog Posts. Special thanks to theJewishWeek.com For declaring Your Funeral Guy an expert, on digital death, dying,  facebook death, facebook funeral, the facebook memorial and facebook obituary.

“And there’s an expert available who can help families create a Facebook obituary. R. Brian Burkhardt is “Your Funeral Guy” and his website describes the steps toward creating a Facebook Memorial.via www.thejewishweek.com”

On May 20th, 2010 I had to choose between attending an Important INFORMATION  Meeting on Green Cremation(Alkaline Hydrolysis, Bio Cremation) and the Digital Death Day un conference.

These two subjects will change the future of funerals in America!

WITH FACE BOOK, When a loved one dies ONE will Need to make a decision about their account. Facebook does provide  service where a limited Facebook Memorial stays in place for about a month. In order to do anything with Facebook in the event of someones death you must begin with the deceased’s Login Information.

After Obtaining the login information  there is  a decision  that must be made.  Do You Want to do a Facebook Memorial. OR Do you just want to close Your Loved Ones account?(Simply delete the account to close the loved ones account.) Proceed this way if you want a Facebook memorial.

This is what you get with the Memorial:

“When Facebook  learns of a death, it immediately removes the deceased’s:

1.contact information,

2.membership in online groups,

3. “personal information ” {favorites-  books, movies, quotations, etc). and that is only bringing your loved one to the Facebook funeral home.) It is a no cost removal- a hearse or a van is not used!}

4. What happens next for about  a month, the user’s Wall, photographs, and basic info( the hometown, the  birthdate, the religion)  stay.( a funeral that lasts a month, i have never seen that!). MEMORIALS ARE THEM POSTED ON THE USERS WALL

Once You have decided You want a Memorial:

Please note that in order to protect the privacy of the deceased user, we cannot provide login information for the account to anyone. We do honor requests from close family members to close the account completely.
