A small funeral service was held in Vancouver for the olypmic luger who died on the luge at the Winter Olympics. After the Funeral the body of   Nodar Kumaritashvili was returned to the country of Georgia.

“A brief, private memorial service was held at a Vancouver funeral home for the Georgian luger killed in a crash during training, then his casket was flown home for burial.

Three Georgian athletes, including figure skater Otar Japaridze, wearing a black armband on his red team jacket, filed past the open casket to touch the body of their fallen teammate, Nodar Kumaritashvili. His uncle and coach, Felix Kumaritashvili, broke into tears outside the funeral home.

The president of Georgia’s Olympic Committee was accompanying the body back to Georgia, where the casket would be received by a spiritual leader.

Kumaritashvili’s father told The Associated Press in Georgia that shortly before the fatal run he spoke to his 21-year-old son, who said he was worried about the track’s speed.

“He told me, ‘I will either win or die,’” David Kumaritashvili said. “But that was youthful bravado, he couldn’t be seriously talking about death.”

Cremation, and the Wildcat scattering of ashes are on the rise, “Wildcat  Scattering” means that one scatters ashes wherever or whenever they want.

Usually it happens at a location favored by the deceased, or a a special family place. The graveyard can be anywhere.

Cremation Chamber

“In the funeral business, it’s known as “wildcat scattering.” The Journal describes the practice as “surreptitiously spreading ashes in favorite parks, stadiums, fishing spots or wherever else feels meaningful.” The Cremation Association of North America estimates about 135,000 families a year are choosing to scatter ashes. “Religion used to hold the script of what you did with the dead,” said Tom Jokinen, a former apprentice undertaker who has written an about-to-be-published memoir, “Curtains.” “Cremation has handed the power back to the people to do what they want with the remains of their loves ones.”via www.nytimes.com

Unmarried Gay Funeral Rights has been approved in Rhode Island. A legislative veto has been overturned. This is basic common sense in funerals, letting  those who loved the dead bury the dead.

The Rhode Island Senate will need to approve Unmarried Gay Funeral Rights before it becomes law.

“Rhode Island House lawmakers have voted to allow gay and unmarried couple the right to plan funerals for their partners, despite Governor Donald Carcieri’s opposition.

If the state Senate approves the bill as well it will become law.” via www.wpri.com
