Is it possible to have life after death online? Yes there is as a strong future for this. It is already happening on Facebook on a regular basis. There have been new sites emerging in this genre. Memorials on line have been around for about 14 years. See (MyCemetery.com) It is only logical that the leap be made into the virtual cemetery.
Things are not quite there yet in terms of acceptance. Nonetheless it is getting coverage in the press. In a May 18 th article at CNN.COM
Snippet:
There are “more questions about what happens to our online lives after we log off for the final time.
The answer, until recently, was nothing.
But now, as online usage increases and social-media sites soar in popularity, more companies are popping up to try and fill that void created in your digital life after death.”
The article goes on to mention “Eternalspace” an online virtual cemetery available only through funeral homes. It also reports on Legacy Locker.
Snippet from CNN.COM:
“A Legacy Locker account costs $29.99 a year. Users can set up their accounts at www.legacylocker.com to specify who gets access to their posthumous online information, along with “legacy letters,” or messages, that can be sent to loved ones.”
Legacy locker is a great idea but a hacker could take a lot away from there.
All of the above will come to pass in the future, but for now some folks will only will take this only as a cartoon in a cartoon graveyard...call me Al-apologies to Paul Simon and Chevy Chase.
